CAFETEATRET, located in Oslo’s Grønland district, provides a varied program of theatre, musical performance, conversation and art exhibitions.

Unique to CAFETEATRET is the combination of onstage performance with a restaurant / café / bar. You can have a meal before the show from our environmently friendly kitchen, or enjoy a drink during the performance. In 2006 CAFETEATRET was voted Oslo’s best café-concept by TV-Norge (Oslo-TV).

Originally a Methodist Church built in 1896, the theatre was opened by Jostein Gaarder and Siri Dannevig in October 2006 to provide a relaxed and intimate space for artistic and cultural events.  Now a listed building, the theatre’s beautiful interior and superb acoustics are reflected in the repertoire presented at CAFETEATRET - a place for intellect, fantasy and reflection!

OPENING TIMES CAFETEATRET is only open in connection to scheduled performances, and our programme of events runs from September to May.

During weekday performances the fully licensed café/bar is open between 18.00 and 01.00 [at weekends there are more varied opening times].

PRIVATE PARTIES The premises are available to hire for private arrangements.
